| Introduction |
| The MicroSpectroscopy Centre (MSC) was founded by Prof. Dr. A.J.W.G. Visser in 1996 to strengthen the Dutch infrastructure in optical microspectroscopy. Initially the centre started as a joint initiative of several laboratories from Wageningen and Leiden University. In 2007 Prof. Dr. H. van Amerongen became director of the Microspectroscopy Centre Wageningen. Microspectroscopy can be defined as spectroscopy performed on microscopic objects. The MSC offers universities, research institutes and industrial companies microspectroscopic state-of-the-art facilities in which they can study biomolecular structure, dynamics and interactions such as those among proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, metabolites, either in isolated form, microchips or within (living) cells. The MSC aims at concentrating and expanding the expertise and knowledge of microspectroscopy with emphasis on experimental plant sciences and food technology. |
